vlcsnap-379504Sky Sports News Presenter Jeff Stelling has been named the new host of the Channel 4 daytime quiz, Countdown.

Stelling will join maths graduate Rachel Riley. She replaces Carol Vorderman, who recorded her final episode recently. The final will be played out on 12th December.

Jeff Stelling said: “I am delighted to be hosting Countdown and follow in the footsteps of such great broadcasters as Richard Whiteley, Des Lynam and Des O’Connor.”

Stelling and Riley will host the new show when it returns in January 2009.

Sky said Stelling’s new Countdown role would not affect his commitments to Soccer Saturday or Sky’s live football coverage.
