Huw Edwards Resigns

Huw Edwards has resigned from the BBC on “medical advice”.

He has been off air since last July following newspaper reports claiming he paid a young person for sexually explicit images.

“Huw Edwards has today resigned and left the BBC,” a short statement from the BBC said.

“After 40 years of service, Huw has explained that his decision was made on the basis of medical advice from his doctors.

“The BBC has accepted his resignation which it believes will allow all parties to move forward. We don’t believe it appropriate to comment further.”

Edwards has hosted some of the BBC’s biggest outside broadcasts, including Royal Weddings, the Inauguration of President Obama, the main ceremonies at the Olympic Games, and the Commonwealth Games.

He had been the BBC’s voice at Trooping the Colour, the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, and the State Opening of Parliament.

Edwards succeeded David Dimbleby as the host of BBC election night coverage and was the lead presenter for the 2019 general election coverage on 12th and 13th December.
