Martine Croxall

Where are you from?
Leicestershire originally

How did you get started in broadcasting?
Work experience at BBC Radio Leicester

When was that?

Why News broadcasting?
When I joined the BBC, the emphasis was on joualism, so it was the only way to become a presenter/reporter. Plus I’m nosey and intrigued by the world

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
BBC Radio Leicester, East Midlands Today, Newsroom South East, UK Today, now BBC News24/BBC World.

What is your Best on-air moment?
Handling four breaking stories on BBC World/News 24 at once single-headed, on only my 5th oveight shift

What is your Worst on-air moment?
Causing ear-splitting howl-round by forgetting to switch off the speakers while trying and failing to report live from the radio car in Leicestershire….

What would you like to do before your career ends?
Do more radio

What do you like to do in your spare time?
With two young children, I don’t have much spare time! I chair a charitable trust which runs a community playgroup – my favourite way to relax is pottering in the garden, early before anyone’s up

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Prove you really are interested in TV and radio – listen and watch widely, get as much work experience as possible. Think carefully before taking an undergraduate degree in joualism/media studies – they rarely give you an advantage – better to study something else to keep your knowledge base as wide as possible for as long as possible.

A big thanks to Martine for taking part.
