Tim first joined ITN in 1981 and spent the 80’s and early 90’s as a foreign correspondent. He was based in Moscow for two years, spent three years in Washington and two in Warsaw.
Tim left ITN in 1993 and for three years presented the BBC’s regional news programme, Newsroom South East. He rejoined the organisation in September 1996.
Tim’s stint in Moscow for ITV News was from 1991 to 1993, during which time he reported on all aspects of what was the greatest upheaval in the country’s history since the 1917 Revolution – the break-up of the Soviet Union presided over by Gorbachev who was himself forced to resign at the end of 1991.
Whilst in the United States (1988-1990) Tim covered all the major political events of the time there including the historic signing of the INF Treaty by Reagan and Gorbachev, the Iran-Contra affair and the 1988 Presidential Elections. His time in Warsaw was equally eventful.
Tim’s career in journalism began in 1967 with a job on the Bury Free Press in Suffolk. From there he moved to the Leicester Mercury, the Bermuda Sun and SFB Radio/TV Bermuda. He joined the BBC World Service as a sub-editor before moving to Radio Orwell in Ipswich as a news editor. He moved over to television broadcasting in 1977 as a reporter with BBC Television North. He went to Thames Television in 1980 prior to joining ITN.
