Cowan began his journalism career at the age of 16, as a junior reporter for The Courier in Dundee. He later worked in the newsrooms for the West Lothan Courier, Aberdeen Press and Journal and the Dundee Evening Telegraph before moving into broadcast journalism as a reporter for Radio Tay and Radio Forth.
The Lockerbie trial has been Cowan’s biggest story to date and he regularly covers major crime stories for STV, including the trial of Peter Tobin.
