‘Another Star’ by Stevie Wonder will be the theme tune for the BBC’s World Cup coverage.
The song, with its infectious Latin American vibe, will be used as the opening sequence for all of the BBC’s World Cup programming, starting with the preview show on 11 June on BBC One and BBC One HD.
This is the first time that Stevie Wonder has given approval for one of his songs to be used in this way. The track is from the album ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ – originally released in 1976 and nominated for seven Grammy Awards, winning four including Album of the Year.
Ian Finch, Senior Producer BBC Sport and the man behind the music, says: “This song perfectly captures the feel-good, carnival atmosphere we will bring to our viewers during the World Cup this summer. It is very rare for an artist of this stature to approve the use of their music in this way, so we are thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity.”
