Sky Sports’ Soccer AM is to be axed at the end of the current football season.

Staff were told on Tuesday that the programme would be ending and they would be made redundant in May, according to The Sun

A source told the newspaper: “It was a complete bombshell.

“Morale is at an all-time low, they are raging.

“It’s going to be an interesting watch over the next few weeks.”

Soccer AM was first broadcast in 1995, presented by Helen Chamberlain, who hosted the show for 22 years, and Tim Lovejoy, who hosted from 1996 to 2007.

Its current presenters are John Fendley and ex-footballer Jimmy Bullard – who are understood to be “fuming” at the announcement.

The football-comedy talk show runs through the week’s football events with added skits and challenges for guests including at least one footballer and a combination of musicians, TV personalities and other sportsmen.

A Sky Spokesperson said: “Soccer AM has played an important role in our coverage of football for the past three decades, and we continually adapt to the evolving needs of our customers.
