Millions of Scots will go to the polls today to vote on Independence.
For months now a fierce battle between the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ campaign groups has raged throughout Scotland, on TV, radio and social media, but at 10pm tonight the polls will close and the fate of the Union will be decided.
The following 8-9 hours will see 32 local government areas count the votes and then report their results to the chief counting officer at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston, near Edinburgh, who will verify them and authorise local announcements.
A final declaration of the national result will be made by the chief counting officer in Ingliston, following receipt and verification of all 32 local totals, which should be around 6.30-7.30am on Friday Morning.
The BBC, ITV and Sky News will have live coverage of the vote throughout tonight into Friday morning.
