ESPN Monday Night Countdown NFL

ESPN is making cuts to their on-air team again.

Robert Griffin III and host Sam Ponder were let go for financial reasons, according to the Athletic.

In August 2021, Griffin signed a multi-year contract with ESPN as an analyst for their college football coverage and NFL Live.

He later joined Monday Night Countdown in 2022 to replace Randy Moss.

Ponder had been with ESPN for more than ten years, most recently serving as the host of Sunday NFL Countdown.

She’s worked as a college football sideline reporter and host for ESPN as well.

ESPN has hired former player Jason Kelce to take Griffin’s spot on the Monday Night Countdown crew.

A year ago, ESPN released a bunch of on-air staff, including Jeff Van Gundy, Jalen Rose, and Steve Young.

ESPN’s first NFL game of the new season sees the New York Jets take on the 49ers on Monday, September 9, 2024.
