Simon Thomas is a former presenter on Sky Sports
Simon was born on 26th January 1973 in Cromer, Norfolk but grew up in Surrey where he went to Aberdour School in Tadworth and St John’s School in Leatherhead. Following his school career, he went to Birmingham University where he graduated with a degree in History.
Prior to joining Sky Sports News in July 2005, Simon was the 27th presenter of the children’s programme Blue Peter, which he joined in January 1999 to replace Richard Bacon. He presented his final edition of the programme on 25th April 2005.
He had previously worked as a researcher at CBBC and LBC radio. His time at Blue Peter allowed him to take part in a large number of sporting features and has run the London Marathon twice, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Mont Blanc, completed a parachute jump with the RAF and presented medals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
He reported for Blue Peter from several countries around the globe including Austria, Australia, Belize, Brazil, Germany, India, Italy, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Solomon Islands, Spain, the United States and Vietnam.
Away from his television career, Simon enjoys a wide range of sports, listing his favourites as rugby, football and surfing. He married Gemma Crosland, in a traditional church wedding in Sevenoaks on 6th August 2005. Gemma died in November 2017, three days after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.
Simon is a Norwich FC supporter. During his time at Blue Peter, he was given the opportunity to cook the team lunch, with help from Delia Smith.
