Seamus John James Given – born 20 April 1976 – is a former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper.
He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Irish goalkeepers of all time.
Shay played for Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Aston Villa from 1994-2017.
In April 2018, a day after his 42nd birthday, Given announced his retirement from professional football.
Given represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level before earning five caps for the Republic of Ireland national under-21 team.
He made his debut for the national team on 27 March 1996, in a game against Russia.
