Jon Sopel BBC News

Jon Sopel is a former North America Editor for the BBC.

During his time at the BBC, Jon has presented the BBC’s One and Six O’clock News bulletins as well as Westminster Live and Around Westminster. Jon joined the BBC in 1983 as a reporter and producer for Radio Solent.

He was the BBC News 24 Chief Political Correspondent for many years before moving to the French capital as the BBC’s Paris Correspondent. Whilst there, he reported on a number of key stories including the French ban on the importation of British beef, the millennium celebrations in Paris, the oil spill in Brittany, the French presidency of the EU in 2000 and the Concorde crash in July 2000.

Jon also presented some of the channel’s coverage of the 2008 US Presidential Election.

Jon is married with two children.
