Sky News have announced that its senior foreign correspondent Richard Bestic, who has spent five years in the channel’s Beijing bureau, will take up the post of India correspondent in the New Year.
Simon Cole, deputy head of Sky News, said: “Richard is one of our most experienced foreign correspondents. His remit from Beijing covered much of Asia, so he already has covered stories in and around India, which will stand him in good stead for launching the bureau.”
Richard Bestic added: “I’m very much looking forward to covering stories across India and the surrounding area. Opening the bureau is a great move for Sky and I’m pleased to be there at its launch. The size and rich variety of the Indian subcontinent will undoubtedly provide challenges. We will be based in Delhi but will range far and wide, covering news, business, sport and culture throughout the continent. Within easy striking distance of New Delhi are Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Burma and Afghanistan.”
