Former BBC economics editor Stephanie Flanders joins Bloomberg

Stephanie Flanders, who left her post as BBC economics editor to join JPMorgan in 2013, is to lead a new economics desk at Bloomberg.

According to a memo from Bloomberg’s editor-in-chief, John Micklethwait, Flanders will join in October to lead what will become a 120-strong team called Bloomberg Economics.

She will be based in London but will spend her first few months in New York.

Flanders became the BBC’s economics editor in 2008, when she replaced Evan Davis.

She left the broadcaster in 2013 to join JPMorgan Asset Management, becoming its chief market strategist for the UK and Europe.

“I’ve learned a huge amount at JPMorgan. But I’ve always wanted not just to understand the global economy, but to explain it to others,” said Flanders.

“When Bloomberg’s editor-in-chief asks you to help build and lead the most powerful engine of economic analysis and reporting in the world, you don’t say no.”

Stephanie has been a reporter at the New York Times (2001), a speech writer and senior advisor to the US Treasury Secretary (1997-2001), and a Financial Times leader-writer and columnist (1993-7).
