Vicky Flind, the wife of news reader Huw Edwards, has named him as the BBC presenter facing allegations over payments for sexually explicit images in a statement issued on his behalf.

Flind said her husband was “suffering from serious mental health issues” and is now “receiving in-patient hospital care where he will stay for the foreseeable future” as she asked for privacy for her family.

The police investigating these claims said an hour ago that the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have now concluded their assessment and have determined there is no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed.

Edwards started his career at the commercial radio station Swansea Sound, before joining the BBC as a news trainee in 1984. In 1986, he became parliamentary correspondent for BBC Wales.

Between 1994 and January 2003, Edwards presented the BBC Six O’Clock News, and became the main presenter of the Ten O’Clock News on BBC One in January 2023.

He has fronted special programmes for the BBC such as the Festival of Remembrance, Trooping the Colour and the State Opening of Parliament.

Edwards succeeded David Dimbleby as the host of BBC election night coverage and was the lead presenter for the 2019 general election coverage.
