Sky News to Axe Weather Presenters

Sky News is set to sack some of their weather presenters.

According to MediaGuardian, Francis Wilson, who has spent 17 years at Sky News, is understood to be leaving as part of a reorganisation that will likely see six weather presenters cut to two, and a new role of weather producer created.

An internal email sent to Sky News staff, seen by mediaguardian said “We are proposing some redundancies within the weather team. All those who are at risk should by now have been informed of this by their manager.

“The way of presenting weather on TV hasn’t fundamentally changed in 30 years, Sky News is a multiplatform service and, as people choose to access weather information in different ways, we believe we can serve viewers better through a combination of headline forecasts from our news presenters and detailed information on our online and mobile services.”

The changes are not likely to affect Sunrise where weather presenters are considered “part of its friendly character and style”.

TV Newsroom also understands that presenter Chris Roberts, Correspondents Geoff Meade and Rona Dougall are also being dropped by Sky News.
