GB News presenter Esther McVey has announced her resignation from the channel with immediate effect.
The MP for Tatton was given a Cabinet role in yesterday’s reshuffle.
As a result, Esther is unable to carry out presenting duties because of the ministerial code.
She had been presenting on the channel since August 2022 alongside her husband and fellow Conservative MP Philip Davies.
Speaking on her departure, she told GB News it was “far from an easy decision”.
“Yesterday, the Prime Minister asked me to join his Government to help bring about the common sense changes the country needs”, she said.
“Given the scale of the challenges we face, it is incumbent on all of us to do what we can, and I will roll up my sleeves and do my best for the Government and the country.
“But this was far from an easy decision for me to make as it means relinquishing my role on GB News – in particular presenting a show I love with Phil.”
McVey, who served as the work and pensions secretary in 2018, was given the title of minister without portfolio in the Cabinet Office.
She has been dubbed the “minister for common sense”.
