Former footballer, Clarke Carlisle, is in hospital tonight after begin hit by a lorry.

He was walking on the A64 near Bishopthorpe in North Yorkshire at 7.30am on Monday morning when he was hit by the lorry.

The 35-year-old has been a regular pundit on ITV, working at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and commentating on the Europa League.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A 35-year-old male from the York area was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A64 this morning and airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he remains in a serious condition.”

ITV Sport said: “The thoughts of everyone at ITV Sport are with our colleague and friend Clarke Carlisle and his family.”

The Football League tweeted: “Our thoughts and those of everyone that watches Football League clubs will be with Clarke Carlisle and his family this evening.”

The reason for the accident remains unclear, however police said they were investigating all possible avenues.
