Sports presenter Nick Powell has announced he is leaving Sky.

“After 29 years at Sky (and 43 in live broadcasting), I will be switching off my mic this month,” Nick said on social media.

“As you see, I look exactly the same as when I began at Pennine Radio in Bradford in 1982. Proud to be choosing to retire – on my 66th birthday. It’s been a blast.

“Thank you to all who helped, above all Peter Milburn, Richard Gregory & John Ryley, who hired me for my 3 employers.”

Nick studied a postgraduate degree in journalism at Cardiff University, before spending four years on Pennine Radio.

He then became a news presenter at Yorkshire Television. This included presenting and reporting on a variety of sports, such as football, rugby league, cricket, and boxing.

He joined Sy at the start of 1996, Initially has a news producer but ended up moving to the sports team. He became Sky News Sports Editor in 2010, while also presenting on Sky Sports News as well.
