Sky News will broadcast live – for 24 hours – from the A&E department of Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham – one of Britain’s busiest and biggest A&E and trauma units.

From 5pm on Saturday, Sky News will be live to see how one A&E department is coping and dealing with pressures on its staff and services. The Sky News team will have full access to the major and minor incidents departments, trauma, resuscitation and children’s A&E, plus East Midlands Ambulance service.

The Queen’s Medical Centre is one of the busiest A&Es and regularly sees 600 patients a day. It is also a major trauma centre and the hub for serious multiple injury in the East Midlands. Sunday’s are their busiest day of the week.

Colin Brazier will kick off the live presentation at 5pm with Kay Burley taking over at 10pm. Isabel Webster will complete the overnight shift from 2am till Lorna Dunkley takes over at 6am. Kay will once again be live from 11am – 2pm, while Colin Brazier completes the 24 hours broadcast.

There will also be live reports from various correspondents throughout as well as pre packaged material across all platforms, while Sky News Correspondent, Tom Parmenter, will be out on call with the paramedic team. There will be a steady stream of guests throughout the 24 hours including Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt and Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham.

This autumn Sir Bruce Keogh will publish his report into the state of emergency services in England; there is widespread concern about the pressure on A&E departments with a growing number failing to meet waiting time targets.

State of Emergency, 24 hours in A&E begins on Saturday at 5pm on Sky News
