Sports correspondent Richard Conway has announced he is leaving the BBC later this year.

“Some personal news – I’m leaving the BBC this summer after 8 amazing years reporting sports news,” Richard told his Twitter followers.

“Thank you for listening, watching and reading… and thank you to the many talented people I’ve worked with during my time here, it has been an honour.

Richard started out as a researcher on ITV’s Dimbleby programme on Sunday mornings in 2004 and became a producer in 2005.

He worked briefly on The Sunday Edition with Andrew Rawnsley and Andrea Catherwood before moving to Sky News in November 2006 where he mainly worked as a planning producer on Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes.

From January 2009 to September 2011 he was a specialist sports producer at Sky News, working with Ian Dovaston before joining the BBC in October 2011.
