[[Kate Silverton]] has given birth to a baby girl.

The BBC news presenter and her husband Mike Heron welcomed Clemency Florence Rose on Saturday afternoon, weighing 8lbs 9oz.

Tweeting this morning, Kate said: “Mike and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our daughter Clemency Florence Rose. She is utterly divine.

“Huge thanks to the NHS staff at Queen Charlotte’s hospital especially leading midwife Jenny Smith and also Dr Gowri Motha who helped ensure I had a natural (and as gentle !) a birth as possible.”

Kate had been told she was unlikely to get pregnant without help after losing an ovary during an operation to remove a cyst when she was 29.

The couple had tried four cycles of IVF without success. They had resigned themselves to being childless, until she conceived naturally earlier this year.

Congratulations to Kate and Mike..
