STV’s special correspondent Bernard Ponsonby has announced he is retiring from the channel after 34 years in the industry.
He joined the station in 1990 and presented the channel’s flagship political programme Platform.
Ponsonby was appointed political editor in 2000, following the retirement of longstanding political editor Fiona Ross.
Speaking of his retirement on the STV website, Ponsonby said he “will do some writing and look to publish – it will help keep the brain active.
“I will do some punditry for whoever thinks my experience might enhance what they are doing.
“I would like to thank all my colleagues. From day one to the final day, STV has been a remarkable family.
“And to our viewers and readers, thanks for the support.”
STV’s John MacKay said: “Quite simply Bernard Ponsonby is a class act. A superb political broadcaster of unsurpassed insight. When he spoke, everyone listened. It is my hope that we have not seen the last of him.”
Last day at STV for the legend that is Bernard Ponsonby. An illustrious career and far, far more fun to work with than his TV persona might suggest. He’ll be much missed. Goodbye, Farewell and Amen: Reflections on a lifetime in broadcasting https://t.co/VNLnSOhg90
