Vicki Young named BBC’s new Deputy Political Editor

Vicki Young BBC News Politcal Correspondent

The BBC today announced that Vicki Young will be the BBC’s new Deputy Political Editor.

Vicki, who is currently the BBC News’ Chief Political Correspondent, started as a reporter at BBC Wales before joining the parliamentary team at Westminster.

She became the BBC’s Chief Political Correspondent in 2015.

“It’s a real honour to become the BBC’s new Deputy Political Editor,” said Vicki.

“As a journalist, it’s both a privilege and an incredible responsibility to be in the front row at such an extraordinary period in UK politics.

“Viewers and listeners rely on us to explain these complex times in a clear and fair way – and that’s what the BBC does best.

“That’s why we remain by far the most trusted news source in the UK, and that’s why the people have been turning to us for informed and impartial coverage of the events of the past few years.

“I’m proud to be part of an incredible BBC team at Westminster.”

Vicki has covered seven General Elections, numerous international summits across the world, and has been a presenter on the BBC News Channel, Politics Live, and Westminster Hour on Radio 4.

She is also a regular studio pundit for the BBC’s election results programmes and on The Andrew Marr Show. Vicki also spent two years as a health correspondent.

Katy Searle, Head of BBC Westminster, added: “Vicki brings enormously clarity to her reporting, as well as a wealth of experience at Westminster. I am very excited to welcome her to this role.”

Vicki, who replaces John Pienaar, begins her new role with immediate effect.
