The sentencing of Oscar Pistorius begins this morning!
The 27-year-old could be imprisoned for up to 15 years, or could go free with a community order.
The athlete was cleared of murdering his 29-year-old girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in a Valentine’s Day shooting at his home, but was convicted of the lesser charge of culpable homicide.
Judge Thokozile Masipa said prosecutors had failed to prove Pistorius’ intent to kill when he fired four 9mm rounds through the toilet door, in what he said was the mistaken belief an intruder was hiding behind it.
Masipa is likely to hear arguments from prosecution and defence before making her ruling.
