ITV will broadcast live coverage of the World Cup 2018 contest between Iran and Spain at the Kazan Arena this evening, where both teams play their second Group B match.
Iran are currently leading the way in this group, following their last-gasp victory over Morocco on Friday.
Spain drew a remarkable match with Portugal 3-3 later that night, but will undoubtedly be considered as favourites coming into this encounter, given their greater pedigree in tournament history, and the make-up of their squad.
For Iran to prosper this evening, they will more than likely have to rely on what was a resolute defence during the qualification process, which in 18 games saw them concede just five goals, but given Spain’s prowess in front of goal, which saw them score an average of over three goals per game in qualifying, that could be a tall order.
Consider too, that Fernando Hierro’s men were not reliant on one man’s firepower in front of goal, as Diego Costa, Isco, Alvaro Morata and David Silva all notched five goals apiece, with Morata still failing to earn a place in the squad for the finals.
Mark Pougatch will be live on ITV and ITV HD from 6.30pm, where he’ll be joined live in the studio by Roy Keane, Ian Wright, Slaven Bilic and Patrice Evra.
Match commentary comes from Clive Tyldesley and Glenn Hoddle.
