The 2019 Cheltenham Festival takes place this week (12 to 15 March) with live television coverage on ITV.
The channel’s coverage features live footage of five races on each of the four days of the festival, going behind the scenes at the course, featuring interviews with key jockeys, trainers and racing legends, sampling the atmosphere in the grandstands, all leading up to the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday afternoon.
Joining Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani for expert insight and analysis are Sir AP McCoy, Luke Harvey and Mick Fitzgerald, with reporting from Oli Bell, Alice Plunkett and Sally Ann Grassick.
Matt Chapman will have the latest betting news, and Brian Gleeson will provide an Irish angle on the action.
Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins and Lorraine’s Mark Heyes join the team on Ladies Day, Wednesday 13 March, and Love Island star and racing enthusiast Chris Hughes joins the team on Thursday 14 March.
The Opening Show, hosted by Oli Bell, will air daily from 9.30am on ITV4 with Sally Ann Grassick out and about on the track as the horses exercise, with Kevin Blake bringing an insight into the Irish angle, a variety of guests and Richard Hoiles’ Festival Quiz Time.
Today’s coverage gets underway at 1pm on ITV and features the Unibet Champion Hurdle. The coverage will also be streamed live online via the ITV Hub.
Champion Hurdle favourite Buveur d’Air goes for a historic hattrick in the race hoping to join the five other greats who have achieved this – including See you Then (1985-87), also trained by Nicky Henderson, and the legendary JP McManus-owned, Istabraq who dominated the race from 1988 to 2000.
Hoping to upset the English apple cart will be the two mares from Ireland – Apple’s Jade and Laurina.
The Opening Show: ITV4, 9.30am
