The final of Carabao Cup 2023/24 will take place this Sunday at Wembley Stadium, where the Premier League teams contest the first domestic trophy of the campaign.
A shock had looked to be on the cards when Chelsea lost 1-0 in the first leg of their semi-final away to Middlesbrough, but they soon assuaged the fears of their fans by scoring four goals in the first-half of the second leg at Stamford Bridge, and going on to win 6-2 on aggregate.
In contrast, Liverpool registered a 2-1 win at home to Fulham in the first leg of their semi-final, and took an early lead in the second leg at Craven Cottage, and despite conceding an equaliser on the night progressed to the final with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
The Reds come into this match looking to add to their nine previous tournament victories and enhance their status as the most successful side in the history of this competition.
That ninth triumph came in the 2021/22 season when they defeated Chelsea 11-10 in a penalty shootout after the match finished 0-0 after extra time.
The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event at 2.00pm and Sky Sports Football from 2.20pm. Highlights will air on ITV1 at 10.50pm.
The final will also be streamed live on Sky’s internet services, Sky Go and NOW.
