Ian Woods was born and grew up in Belfast, but began his career in local radio in Coventry.
He then moved to the BBC where he was the presenter of the regional news programme East Midlands Today for five years.
He joined Sky News in 1995, first as Sports Correspondent, then as sports editor.
For several years he covered every England football match at home and abroad, including the World Cup in 1998. That year he also reported on the Winter Olympics in Japan.
He returned to news reporting in 2001, and after spells in the United States and Afghanistan was appointed Sky News’ US Correspondent based in Washington.
He’s reported from Europe, Africa, Asia, America, and Australia during his career, but nothing can top reporting from inside the Wembley dressing room after his beloved Coventry City won the FA Cup in 1987!
