Sky News is launching a new dynamic Sunday morning programme hosted by former political correspondent, Sophy Ridge.

‘Sophy Ridge on Sunday’ will be a one hour programme broadcast at 10am that will focus on the political week in Westminster and what it means for the lives of the wider public.

The show will pick up on the mood of the nation as Brexit negotiations begin, and will examine how policy decisions will affect the lives of the electorate.

There will be a major interview at the top of the hour, a special weekly feature ‘Ridge on the Road’ where Sophy explores how the country is reacting to Westminster, paper reviews and analysis from the Sky News specialist team on the week’s major stories.

“This is an incredible opportunity for me to hold the people who govern our country to account and ask the questions that our viewers want answered,” said Sophy.

“I hope that we deliver a programme that demystifies the political rhetoric offering real insight into what decisions in Westminster mean for the rest of us.”

The programme begins in the New Year on January 8th and will be edited by Toby Sculthorpe.

John Ryley, Head of Sky News, added: “Sophy on Sunday will bring a fresh approach to Sunday morning broadcasting. This will not be a show that reports from the Westminster bubble, but will be investigating how decisions made by the political elite affect the public and their lives. Sophy is an exceptional talent, and I know she will offer a new perspective on the political week for our customers across the UK and beyond.”

Sophy joined Sky News in 2011 as Senior Political Correspondent before becoming a presenter in October 2016. Prior to joining Sky News she was political correspondent for the News of the World.

Dermot Murnaghan who led the agenda setting MURNAGHAN on Sunday mornings now presents Sky News Tonight, Sky News’ flagship evening programme.
