Bomber Command Memorial

A new memorial to honor the men of the RAF’s Bomber Command who died in World War II will be unveil later today.

The ceremony, which takes place in London’s Green Park, will see Her Majesty the Queen and members of the Royal family pay tribute to the 55,573 men who lost their lives during bombing raids as well as other aircrew who have served in combat zones across the globe.

At the heart of the ceremony The Queen will unveil the new memorial.

The service will be followed by a flypast of the Royal Air Force’s last flying Lancaster Bomber. The vintage plane will drop poppies over the park as a message of remembrance for those who died.

The BBC and Sky will have live coverage of the event on their news channels and BBC Two will have a special programme A Tribute to Bomber Command at 5pm this evening.
