The polls are open in the 2017 General Election and will close at 10pm tonight, when the results of the exit poll will be revealed.

The broadcasters’ exit poll, carried out by Ipsos MORI and GfK for the BBC, ITV News, and Sky News will offer the first dramatic snapshot of the results at 10pm before the results come in throughout the evening and into the following day.

Channel 4 will host ‘alternative election coverage’.

BBC One / BBC News Channel

The BBC’s main programme starts at 9.55pm on BBC One and BBC News Channel.

Live from Elstree studios, David Dimbleby will front the main programme and will be speaking to a range of guests.

Jeremy Vine will once again be using the swingometer to measure the percentage of swing between the parties.

Andrew Neil will be interviewing politicians throughout the evening at the BBC Election Centre, while Emily Maitlis illustrate and analyse the emerging picture behind the results with the help of a touchscreen.

Mishal Husain will interview key political players, media editor Amol Rajan follows how the night is unfolding on social media and political editor Laura Kuenssberg will be assesses the impact this result will have in the days, weeks and years ahead.

BBC correspondents led by Andrew Marr, Nick Robinson, Kirsty Wark and Sophie Raworth will be at the key counts.


From 9.55pm, five minutes before the polls close, News at Ten anchor Tom Bradby will present ITV’s live through-the-night coverage of the battle for Number 10, revealing who will lead the country for the next five years.

He’ll be joined in the studio by ITV political editor Robert Peston and two political analysts – Professor Jane Green, a director of the British Election Study and Professor Colin Rallings, ITV’s election analyst for nearly 30 years.

Regional correspondents report from the key constituencies as the votes are counted, with commentators in the studio – including George Osborne and Ed Balls – share their interpretation of the results as they happen – and what happens next.

Nina Hossain will chart how the election is being followed online with social media partners and a gathering of guests.

Channel 4

Over on Channel 4 from 9pm, Jeremy Paxman, David Mitchell and Richard Osman launch an all-night feast of comedy and commentary in a more light-hearted take on polling day and the General Election, with contributions from a host of special guests in the studio and around the nation.

The night includes special editions of Gogglebox and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, while Channel 4 News presenters Gary Gibbon and Cathy Newman will keep viewers up to date with all the results and breaking stories.

Sky News

Sky’s main election coverage kicks off at 9pm in a new specially created studio at Osterley. Adam Boulton will front the programme from west London, while Sophy Ridge presents from Abingdon Green.

Kay Burley will be with Theresa May at her Maidenhead constituency, Colin Brazier will be in North London following Jeremy Corbyn, Anna Botting in the Lake District with leader of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron, Niall Paterson in Glasgow with the SNP, Gillian Joseph with UKIP and Paul Kelso will be with the Green Party in Brighton.

Michael Thrasher, Sky News’ election expert, will be analysing all the results as they come in alongside Ed Conway and Lewis Goodall.
