The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, will deliver the Budget later today, his fifth since taking office in May 2010.
This is the Chancellor’s penultimate budget of this parliament as the next general election is scheduled for May 7th, 2015.
He is expected to announce measures aimed at small business, families, and investors, including: An increase in the tax-free element of the personal allowance to £10,500; an additional crackdown on tax avoidance; and investment in road and rail. Osborne will also unveil a new £1 coin.
BBC News and Sky News will have live coverage of Budget 2014 throughout the day, while ITV News will broadcast a special programme from 12.15pm.
The BBC’s Budget coverage begins at 6am with BBC Breakfast and continues on the BBC News Channel from 8.30am.
The main Budget programme starts at 11.30am on BBC Two and the News Channel, where Huw Edwards and Jo Coburn presents.
They’ll be joined in the studio by Nick Robinson and Robert Peston.
Alastair Stewart will front ITV News’ coverage of the Budget, where he’ll be joined by ITV News’s business, economics and social affairs editors – Joel Hills, Richard Edgar and Penny Marshall.
Political editor Tom Bradby will be reporting live from Westminster on reaction at the heart of the Government..
The programme is live on ITV from 12.15pm.
Sky News’ Budget coverage begins at 6am with Sunrise, before Dermot Murnaghan takes over with the main programme at 11am.
Dermot will be joined throughout the programme by Adam Boulton, Ed Conway, Joey Jones, Anushka Asthana, Poppy Trowbridge, Sophy Ridge, Dharshini David and by correspondents across the country, including the key marginal seat of Wakefield.
Ed Conway will be at ‘the Big Screen’ with the usual visual graphics.. and Sky’s soon to be Business Editor, Ian King, will make an appearance as a commenting guest.
A ‘Jeff Randall Live’ Budget special will cap off the main coverage at 7pm.
The Chancellor will make his statement at 12.30pm, after Prime Minister’s Questions at 12pm.
