Uruguay face Portugal in the last-16 of World Cup 2018 this evening.

The match takes place at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi, as the winners of Group A take on the runners-up from Group B.

Uruguay finished above Russia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt after winning all three of their matches, including a comprehensive 3-0 victory over the hosts in their previous fixture.

Oscar Tabarez’s team have now made it through to the knock-out stage for the third World Cup in succession, and will be confident that they can improve on their fourth place finish at the 2010 tournament.

They became the first team since Argentina in 1998 to win all three group games without conceding a goal, and will expect to cause problems for today’s opponents given their form so far.

Portugal, on the other hand, will be looking to improve on a fairly average display in the group stage, despite progressing to the last 16.

Fernando Santos’ side secured second place having amassed five points, but only finished one point ahead of Iran after an exciting final round of games that featured some late, controversial decisions using the VAR.

Their only win was a 1-0 defeat of Morocco thanks to a goal from talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, and they’ll need to improve their level of performance if they are to advance to the quarter-finals, which they last achieved in 2006.

This is scheduled to be just the third encounter between these two sides, with the last match taking place in 1972, when a friendly match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Match coverage begin at 6.30pm on ITV and ITV HD. The match will also be streamed live via the ITV Hub.
