Uruguay face France at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Russia this afternnon, where the first of this year’s semi-finalists will be decided.

The French will come into this contest full of confidence following their 4-3 victory over Argentina last time out, in what was the first World Cup game to finish that score, excluding extra time.

Kylian Mbappe – who was not yet born when France won the 1998 World Cup – was the star of the show, and his brace saw him become the first teenager to score multiple goals in a World Cup tournament since Michael Owen for England in 1998, and the first to score at least twice in a World Cup match since Pele managed the feat against Sweden in 1958.

If Didier Deschamps’ men are to progress to the semi-finals, their potent attack will have to be at their very best to break down an obdurate Uruguayan defence that has conceded just a single goal in the tournament so far.

Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez have been the linchpins of the rear-guard, and have rightly garnered a cavalcade of plaudits, but the South Americans can also rely upon Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani to provide plenty of menace up front, making them one of the most feared teams in the competition.

Coverage begins at 2.30pm on ITV and ITV HD, where Mark Pougatch will be joined the studio by Ian Wright, Martin O’Neill and Ryan Giggs.

Match commentary comes from Sam Matterface and Gary Neville.

Kick-off 3.00pm

The match will also be shown live via the ITV Hub.
