The 2019 Boat Race will take place this afternoon as Cambridge aim to retain both titles in the men’s and women’s races.

This is the fifth time that both races will be taking place on the same afternoon and on the same course, and thousands of people will line the course of four miles and 374 yards from Putney to Mortlake in what is one of the longest-established events on the British sporting calendar.

Double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell is scheduled to take part for Cambridge in the men’s race, and at the age of 46 will become the oldest competitor in the history of the event.

Clare Balding will be live on BBC One and BBC One HD from 1.20pm.

The event will also be streamed live via the BBC iPlayer.
